At their regular monthly meeting (Monday December 13, 2010) the Board of Fire Commissioners of Fire District #2, Whippany Fire Department, recognized three of their career staff presenting them with certificates and citation bars for their part in saving the life of a middle age male in the Whippany Section of Hanover Township.

Firefighter/EMT Ian Bell, Firefighter/EMT Paul Perrello and Chief Joseph Cortright were recognized and commended for their quick response and actions by performing CPR that rehabilitated a patient in need.  The three were presented certificates and citation bars by Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners Henry Hansch III and Fire Commissioner Ron Barz (EMS Liaison).

On November 17th of this year the three firefighters were first on the scene of a patient who was in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival the members of the fire department (two of whom are EMT’s) immediately started CPR and attached a defibulator to the patient who was blue at the time of their arrival, while performing CPR the patient was shocked twice en-route to the ambulance.

The patient was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Cedar Knolls First Aid Squad and MICU Medics. Two weeks later the patient stopped by the WFD and thanked the members for their assistance.
