My friend Mike Lally posted a video on his blog about a 9 year old girl in 4th grade psyching herself up to prepare for a ski jump and it got me to thinking how this experience is just like most other challenges that we face in life.

It’s a scaring thing to put your self out there and take a chance.  What happens if you fail?  Are you going to get hurt?  Are people going to make fun of you?  Will it ruin you?

Scenario after scenario play out in our minds which cause our adrenaline to flow and for us to question what we’re about to do.  Though a strange things happens when we actually confront the challenge and actually start doing, or moving, or acting.  All of our training and experiences kick in to help us through it.  Before you know it, the moment has passed and we can reflect on what just happened because we’re now on the other side of that task that we thought was going to be impossible or embarrassing.

The key is – we’re on the other side and we made it through!!!!

Yeah, there are many times when things may not have ended up just as we hoped, though the key is that we lived through the experience and proved to ourselves that we can meet the challenge.  We now know what is needed to improve and can better practice to overcome the obstacles that are holding us back in life.

And then there are some times when we put it all on the line and this video of the 9 year old reminds us what life is all about – when it all comes together….

“If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be one year older when you do” – Warren Miller

PS – And yes, I’m going to do a real ski jump like this one day!!
