As I was mowing the lawn today on one of the greatest inventions ever, a Walker Lawnmower, it got me to thinking back to the days when I was doing this for a living and a simple thing that my grandfather taught me years ago as I was fixing one of my machines in the shop – When something breaks and you go to the store to pick up the part, buy another because it’s bound to break again.

At first you may think this is being wasteful, though it’s some of the best advice that I’ve ever received.  Because its inevitable that you’re going to be backed up one day on a project with a tight deadline and sure enough that part that broke in the past will again break at this most inopportune time!!  I can’t tell you how many times having a spare part on hand has saved me countless hours which intern saved me money!!

So, next time you run to the store to pick up a part, why not buy two so that you’ll be prepared in the future….
